JUDY LARKINS DAVIS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
The life of Judy Larkins Davis reveals an example of caring for children and sharing in their growth that will be an inspiration for years to come. Upon graduation from college Judy began a lifelong career as an educator. She found her greatest joy and satisfaction working with elementary age children. During a nearly 30-year career in education Judy was a teacher aide and a teacher at Lincoln Elementary School and Stuart R. Paddock Elementary School in Palatine as well as a Montessori schoolteacher. More than a teacher, Judy was also a volunteer in her community and was chosen “Volunteer of the Year” by Northwest Volunteer Service Bureau. A victim of cancer, Judy’s career as an educator was cut short in 1995. Her parents, Verne and Betty Larkins, wishing to continue her commitment to education, established the Judy Larkins Davis Memorial Scholarship in 2000. With their sizeable gift a fund was established so that each year a scholarship may be awarded to an individual or individuals who best show the ideals seen in Judy’s life. Throughout their lives the Larkins shared their daughter’s interest in education. In establishing the Judy Larkins Davis Memorial Scholarship, they have perpetuated both her memory and their family’s commitment to learning.
STAN AND BETTY CLARK MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Stan and Betty Clark were long-time members of Kingswood Church who offered committed leadership to Kingswood for their many years of service. Stan and Betty met at Kingswood and had a beautiful, loving life together.   They both were committed to serving others, movie groups, reading, and mission. They touched many lives at Kingswood. In establishing the Stan and Betty Clark Memorial Scholarship, her children celebrate their lives and their deep commitment to mission, service, and community in Christ!
DWIGHT & EMERALD HALL MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Dwight Hall was for many years the most well-known member of Kingswood Church. Dwight and his wife, Emerald, charter members, took an aggressive role in inviting neighbors to the Anew@ church. He assumed responsibility for organizing a choir and became its director for several years. Emerald was also active in the music program and served as the church organist. Dwight served on the Board of Trustees, Church Council and nearly every other board and committee. Among areas of service in which he took greatest pride were the United Methodist Men and Lay Leader. Beyond the obvious service, Dwight shared his gifts and love in many quiet and unheralded ways. Following his death many people would say, Dwight helped me with . . . @  He was a man of Christian conscience, discipline, and commitment. Dwight also was a well-known and widely-admired educator in the community. As a teacher and school administrator, he touched many lives and exhibited the highest commitment to education. It was this dual commitment, to his faith and to his profession, which led to the establishing of a fund following his death in 1993. The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to young people of Kingswood Church who either were already enrolled or preparing to enroll in college/university. Kingswood youth who are currently enrolled or planning to attend college/university the following fall may apply for this scholarship.
CAROL SULLIVAN MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP
Carol Sullivan was raised in and was a very active member of the Presbyterian Church in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. She graduated from Westminster College in New Wilmington Pennsylvania in 1959 with a degree in biology. She later received a degree in fashion design (a life-long dream) while living in Chicago in 1990. Carol actively served in church ministries, programs, boards and leadership activities throughout her entire adult life as she and her husband, Fred, lived in many places due to Fred’s work. She was pleased to see her three children graduate from Albion College in Michigan and become active participants/leaders in their respective churches across the country as they married and raised their families. Carol was a very active, dedicated member and leader at Kingswood Church, offering hospitality, leadership, and encouragement in all that she did. She would be proud to know she was honored by having a college scholarship created in her memory at Kingswood and the entire Sullivan family is grateful for the opportunity to financially support the Kingswood students pursuing college degrees in the decades ahead.
UNADINE BROWN SCHOLARSHIP
Unadine Brown, a long-time member of Kingswood Church, offered beauty and creativity in everything she did. She was a wise, courageous and strong woman of faith and leadership. Unadine was born on a family farm in Humboldt, Illinois. She attended beauty school and operated Charme Beauty Shop & Boutique in downtown Chicago. That was the beginning of her impressive list of careers; her innumerable talents and zeal also led her to careers as a furrier, rancher, turkey farmer, model, Prudential Insurance agent and real estate sales. Her greatest joys were carrying for her dog Sugar, spending many hours in her beautiful backyard flower garden, her many sewing talents, helping her neighbors, and sharing baked good with friends, & church functions at Kingswood.  She was the “rock” for the Brown family and was clearly loved. Her faith in Christ led her to leave a generous gift for scholarships for women from Kingswood. The scholarship will be awarded to women only and is not limited to college scholarships but to a woman pursuing a technical, professional or vocational certification or trade.
